SHARING

Brief
Design an exhibition that relates to the word ‘ingestion’.

Result
Our exhibition explores the act of sharing. Scarcity of resources, freedom of information, migration across borders; the opinion of how much we –both as an individual and a nation – the willingness to share is being debated worldwide.

By setting a familiar scene where opinions and thoughts are discussed: the dinner table; table talk, the exchange of food and thoughts. This setting was given a playful twist that encourages the guests to see the potentials of sharing.

The performance consists of an immaculately white dining table. Savory plates are set on either side and a sweet course runs directly down the center of the table. Members of the audience are invited to be seated, before them they are either faced with food or two forks, forcing the table to share to eat.

As the plates are passed across the table a sweet fruit syrup runs from a hidden cavity within the plate. Lines of colour follows the passing of the plates until the food is finished and all that is left is the table cloth and the sweet centerpiece is riddled with the pollock-esk patterns of syrup; the more the people share the taster the meal.

The strength of the performance is its visual impact and its openness for interpretation. The table has raised a range of discussions, debates and opinions: food consumption and waste, knowledge exchange, immigration. These conversations depend upon where the performance is and who is seated.

Over a series of separate events this performance has developed: further considerations to its aesthetics and designing a pop-up stage for the performance. We would like to push this performance to become more of a holistic project; producing an environment that evokes the concept of sharing. We see the potential for this project to become almost like a forum, catalyzing a public discussion on how its best to share on both an individual, national and global scale within Demark.

In 2018 this performance was exhibited at both the Milan Design Festival and Folkemødet.
